I live in a very cold and snowy climate, so I am very aware of how dry skin can be in the winter months. I wanted to share some of my favorite finds, along with a short description, of foundations that actually save my life in the winter. I will have them listed in the following order: Low Coverage, Medium Coverage, High Coverage.
Low Coverage
I know. I know. This is an expensive foundation, but don’t worry there will be a drugstore and a high end option for each category! The Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation gives the skin a radiance that seems to only exist on models. The formulation of this foundation helps to prevent the skin from looking flaky or dry even in the coldest weather. The only con to this foundation is the wear time. I found that it applied beautifully, but wore off in about 5 hours. This is defiantly a downside considering the price. However, I will be repurchasing because it gave my skin a moisturized light weight bounce that it rarely has in the winter. Rating: 8/10
Another honorable mention is the MAC Studio Face and Body Foundation. This foundation is very similar to the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation, but actually has a sheerer application. Between the two, this formula beats the tie-breaker. Why? The MAC foundation is nearly 3 times the size of the Dior foundation but the same price. Again, the biggest con with this foundation is the wear time of only 5 hours. Rating: 9/10
Neutrogena Hydro Boost is one of the best lightweight foundations I have ever come across. This foundation does outlast the Dior and MAC foundations by an additional 2 hours! Really the only cons that I can say about this foundation is that the applicator is messy and that it is never in stock. These do eat into its rating because not only am I looking for cost savings, but I am looking for accessibility. Rating 6/10
Medium Coverage
L’Oréal Paris really road in on a white horse with this foundation. It is so hydrating and has skin care benefits! This really makes me feel better about myself when I am piling on the makeup. Also, that packaging is incredible. I love when products come in pumps or squeeze form, it just helps to reduce bacteria for getting in your makeup. Rating 10/10
I think everyone was surprised when Selena Gomez’s makeup line became a hit right after launch. This foundation is hydrating and performs like it was formulated by experts. As you use this foundation you will be thanking Selena, not only for providing us with music, TV, and movies, but also for incredible looking skin. Downsides? This foundation comes with a doe shaped applicator, and as you know it is my personal preference for makeup to be in pump or squeeze form. If this doesn’t bother you then I think you will love this foundation. Rating 8/10
High Coverage
Just wow. This foundation blew me away. I am not a full coverage kind of woman, but this foundation might just convert me. It makes your skin truly look photoshopped. If you are breaking out during the winter and just want to cover everything up, this is the foundation for you. I feel like I don’t even need to talk on it further because it really speaks for itself. Rating 10/10
If you really want to cut down on the number of products you use on a daily basis this is the foundation for you. This foundation’s pigment is so concentrated that you wont even need a concealer to cover your dark circles. You could even get away without using primer because when this foundation sets it is not moving until you double cleanse at the end of the day. Rating: 9/10
