The quality of drugstore makeup today is 100 times better than it was 10 years ago. I remember buying my first foundation. It was the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation. I would never with this foundation onto my worst enemy, but I was young and didn’t know better. This blog is going to walk through the basic essential makeup that is affordable at the drugstore.
Primer:
I have dry skin, so I like a primer that helps to moisturized and add a bit of extra glow to my skin. The Milani Soft Focus Glow Complexion Enhancer definitely provides the glow that I am looking for in my products. It is the best dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter or the Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint.
Foundation:
L’Oréal did everything right with the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation. It has medium, but build-able or sheer-able coverage, while also adding an extra glow to the skin. And it has SPF in it so your future skin will be thanking the company for creating this foundation.
Concealer:
When I was younger, e.l.f. was just the company you would buy gimmicky beauty items from. They didn’t have anything of high quality, but it was really the only makeup I could afford at that time in my life. It was a good company to wet your toes with when getting introduced to makeup. Today the company is best known for the e.l.f. 16 HR Camo Concealer. This concealer really created a wave in the media when it out performed even the best high end makeup brands. And the price is incredible!
Powder:
e.l.f made it onto this list twice! e.l.f. Prime & Stay Finishing Powder has definitely been flying under the radar, but it will definitely be a hit in 2021! It is a I have dry skin so I am very picky with my powders. This powder some how doesn’t make my skin look dry, but gives me a flawless completion.
Bronzer:
The Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer is the best drugstore bronzer available at this moment. It have a powder to cream then back to powder consistency that makes blending it onto the face so easy.
Blush:
Blush became a big summer trend in 2020. I think this trend will stick around for the upcoming 2021 year, but if you don’t want to invest in a expensive blush then you should by the wet n wild Color Icon Powder Blush. This blush has build-able pigment and blends seamlessly.
Brows:
Some people love to get super fancy with their brows. They use pencils, pomades, tints, and more. I think you really only need a pencil for your day to day makeup. The e.l.f. Instant Lift Brow Pencil is the best basic pencil for only $2.00! You need to get this brow pencil.
Eyeshadow:
Eyeshadow is a very personal thing. In a basic makeup bag I don’t think it is necessary to have an eyeshadow pallet. For an everyday look I would just use my bronzer and blush to create an eye look. However, I found that when I want to take my look from day to night this process doesn’t work. The Milani Bold Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette gave me the ability to make both day and night eye looks for very low price. I highly recommend getting a eyeshadow palette with browns, a black, and your favorite color as the color theme.
Mascara:
The L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara is the best drugstore mascara. It is one of the only maracas that I have found to not smudge or crumble on me throughout the day.
Lipstick:
I love to wear some kind of color on my lips. I typically opt for a bullet lipstick, but I came across the Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick this past winter. Wow do this make your lips look kissable while also adding an extra splash of color to your complexion.
